The philosophy of The Constitution is contained in The Preamble and was adopted and enacted in the same way the as the other provisions were enacted and hence the honourable Supreme Court, in 1973, adopted The Preamble as a part of The Indian Constitution after the Keshavanad V/S State of Kerela case. The provision of having a preamble was borrowed from the U.S. constitution.

The preamble tells us about the source in the phrase, ‘We, the people of India’, The Preamble glorifies the ideals behind the formation of Indian Democracy. The basic ideas are Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic and Republic.

SOVEREIGN refers to the decision on any matter by the state without any influence or pressure, whether external or internal.

SOCIALIST signifies that the means of production will be nationalized if necessity arises and are for the welfare of the general public. India follows Fabian or democratic socialism. India adopts a mixed economy.

SECULAR. In India positive secularism exists. The state doesn’t have any national religion and it provides support to every religion equally. There is freedom of religion U/A 25-28. Secularism restricts the government to develop any law favouring any particular religion.

DEMOCRATIC. In India, indirect democracy prevails. Here people elect their representatives indirectly.

REPUBLIC suggests that in our country, people elect the Head of The STATE I.E., THE President.

The constitution also tells us about the aspirations of every government. They are --- Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, Unity and Integrity. Justice in social, Economic and political field. Liberty of expression of thoughts, belief, faith, worship. Equality in status and opportunity. Promoting spirit of brotherhood which would provide dignity, unity and integrity.

Preamble lastly tells us about the date of adoption of The Indian Constitution i.e., 26th of November, 1949. In the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976, the words ‘Socialist’, ‘Secular’ and ‘Integrity’ were added to it. The preamble also contains the basic structures of The Indian Constitution
