First of all let us define what Feminism is. Feminism denotes equality in among the sexes i.e., males and females. ‘Equality’, to be precise, is very different from ‘Equivalence’ and maybe we interpret it wrong. We shall come to that later. Please read through the end and judge your notions regarding Feminism.

Feminism is range of political movements, ideologies, social movements that share a common goal; to establish equality among the sexes. Feminism is not basically limited to its term and is widely spread through with various types. Feminism may be depicted as a social paradox or a movement with alpha necessity to provide justice to women; both these viewpoints can be argued upon.

Let me put a question to the fore, Do we a similar sort of movement for males too. Something like masculinism?? Another question that may be raised is that …Do we still feel that the society is dominated by males only?? We shall try to answer all of these questions later. Let’s discuss the types of feminism first.

REFORMIST FEMINISM

It is a belief of feminism that suggests gender inequality can be eliminated through legislative or electoral reforms without the need to alter the capitalist system itself. This is completely an orthodox approach to feminism and thus many limitations came into play with this approach of feminism. Another name of this type of is liberal feminism. This kind of feminism works within the structure of the mainstream society to involve women into various socialist activities. This would increase the society’s response to women empowerment. It doesn’t challenge the system or ideology of women oppression.

RADICAL FEMINISM

As the name suggests, this is a radical approach to feminism. Radical feminism views patriarchy and sexism as the most important and influential reason behind women oppression. This approach doesn’t consider any cultural, social or holistic reasons as the foreground of women oppression. The term reflects the women movements emerging out of civil rights, peace and other liberalization movements that weigh sexism as the most influential factor of women oppression. This provides the root of any feminist movements around the world.

BLACK FEMINISM

It’s a paradoxical belief which argues that sexism, class and colour oppression, racism are all inextricably bound together. The way these concepts are related to each other is called intersectionality. The oppression of a black woman cannot be understood by being simply black or simply by women according to Crenshaw. The combined oppression is quite a bit different and more intense.

MARXIST OR SOCIAL FEMINISM

Feminists grounded to Socialist concept of analysis, attribute women’s oppression principally to the capitalist economic system where global corporate power prevails. Many other feminists believe that this form of power seen in the class system is a crucial factor in women’s subordination but see patriarchy as the major force behind women’s subjugation.

CULTURAL FEMINISM

Cultural feminism emphasizes the differences between men and women in terms of biology, personality and behavior. Women are assumed to have superior virtues with respect to men and this genre of feminism doesn’t signify feminism but superiority. It suggests that if women were in power in the 70s and 80s, the world would have been a better place to live in as the women are gentler and kind in nature compare to men. In that era women supported developing a different culture for men and women.

ECO-FEMINISM

This form of feminism views patriarchy and domination not only as a threat to women oppression but also as a defining threat to all living creatures and environment. Eco-feminists entitle women’s rights and empowerment as a linkage political, economic, social and cultural factors that benefit all living creatures of the planet.

VISIONARY FEMINISM

Visionary Feminism is a wise and loving politics. Its basis lies in the love of Male and female beings. This sort of feminism combines the need to challenge patriarchy, class, race and other forms of oppression such as imperialism and corporate control. It also suggests that love cannot exist in any relationship which is based on domination and coercion. This patriarchy must be uprooted to support the abolishment of women oppression. This is the main subject matter of Visionary Feminism.

TRANSLATIONAL OR GLOBAL FEMINISM

This approach to feminism is concerned mainly about how globalization and capitalism affect people across nationalities, races, ethnicities, genders, classes, and sexualities and has reinforced a range of global movements. It recognizes inequalities across different groups of women and the importance of intersectionality as a way to understand and engage difference. While global issues do not affect women in the same way because of these differences, the impact of these issues and power dynamics are seen to be crucial to feminist social justice agendas. This vision understands the need for comprehensive approaches that integrate multiple issues and movements to find common cause across agendas to ensure long-term social transformation.

Here we come to an end of Part 1 of “Feminism, Do we interpret it Right”. Stay connected with iGNITED iNFINITY for the more significant Part 2 of “Feminism, Do we interpret it Right”. The first part showed how actual feminism prevails in the world and second part will contrast its notion against Modern feminism and open your eyes and show how fake feminism is supported in the world now.
